Zhenya and Sinead

Zhenya Gerson of Exhale Wellness Spa and Sinead Kelly of Well of Harmony

On Friday 30th October, I had the pleasure to partner with Sinead Kelly, from Well of Harmony to present our Stress, Anxiety and Your Digestion Workshop. Sinead and I share our beautiful space in Cronulla, which we  created together as a sanctuary for everyone to unwind and be able to let go of whatever they need as soon as they walk through our door.

Due to the success of running this workshop at the start of the year, it was a must to offer this workshop again. Generally speaking, stress, anxiety and digestion are considered as separate topics and unrelated health issues. Sinead and I wanted to break this down and discuss the deep connection between all three issues and how they are interrelated, affecting one another simultaneously.

Colonics and Kinesiology work greatly together, especially when discussing topics such as this. The colon holds onto many emotions, some emotions we’ve been carrying around for years and some are new; perhaps anxiety about a new job, or an exam or sending the kids to school for the first time, just to name a few. Anxiety is just one emotion that can effect the colon. Things like anger, worry, sadness and fear are also felt in our gut. We don’t often carry all these emotions around together at the same time, but at some point in our lives, we’ve all felt these. Some of us feel them stronger than others but none of us can hide from the “gut feeling.” The gut holds onto emotions in different sections of the large intestine.

How does this relate to colonics?

During a colonic session we are not only moving physical waste but we are moving emotional baggage and waste as well. Stuff that we may have been carrying around for years and didn’t even realise. For example, during a treatment clients often point to areas of their colons that have been bothering them. Often times they point to the Solar Plexus area.  Anxiety lives in our Solar Plexus, located just underneath the diaphragm, above the belly button. This area, our 3rd chakra is considered the governor of our digestive system, and is also the core of our personality, our identity and our ego- perception of who we are. When this chakra is imbalanced this can lead to serious issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and unhappy tummies. Colonics can help a great deal here, relieving pain, discomfort and trapped gas but they aren’t the total answer.

Where does Kinesiology come in?

Whilst I may be excellent at colonics, my qualifications are not in Kinesiology where the practitioner will look deeper into the sometimes sub-conscious as to where these emotions are coming from and then how to work through them. This is where Sinead comes in. Both of us believe in a whole body approach, physical, spiritual and emotional. “The primary purpose of a kinesiology session is to identify stress and the underlying patterns and to re-balance the body, mind and spirit. Kinesiology can help all areas of health and wellbeing,” Sinead Kelly, Well of HarmonyWhen signs of stress are manifesting in the physical body we must do whatever it takes to be well from the inside out.  As Dr. Michael Gherson has said Remember the inside of your gut is really the outside of your body”.

The link between the gut and the brain is a two way street. This is why my favourite type of feedback from a client is when they tell me how much lighter, happier and clear headed they feel after a treatment. Remember, 90% of our Serotonin is created in our gut!
