My 30 day Pilates challenge ended on the 31st of October and I was truly sad to see it go. After those first couple of weeks of serious muscle heaviness, I found my balance between the right amount of yoga to compensate for the extra pilates classes.
My Yoga practice has gotten stronger and several postures have changed for me in many ways. Where I thought I had a lot of flexibility I find that once I get my body in the right starting position, the amount of flexibility isn’t as deep as it once was. However I feel more protected and I am honouring my body more and more. Giving thanks and gratitude for what it shows me on a daily basis.
On the last day of the challenge, studio owner, Lana Johnson, from BPS Tensegrity, took us through a fun workshop discussing the different ways and times of the day we can move our bodies. Remember the “animal walks” we sometimes did in school, around grades 3-4? Things like, slither like a snake, walk like a gorilla, jump like a donkey?? Well we did those and then some, reminding us that movement is meant to be fun! The more we move, the more our bodies can release tension, stress, anxiety, knots and we feel lighter, playful and more joyous. I haven’t yet tried my Gorilla walk to the kitchen, but I have a feeling I’ll have fun with it soon enough.
I’m continuing my Pilates sessions twice a week and of course a few yoga sessions in there as well. So whether it’s yoga, pilates, cycling, boot camp, hiking or kite surfing, get out there and move! Your body, brain and those around you will thank you for it. The more we move the lighter we feel all around. Oh and remember the GIB (growth in booty) factor? I’m happy to report my husband is happy, so are my jeans 🙂
Here is another quick video taken by Silvia, one of the awesome teachers at BPS. “Climb a ladder on the barrel.”
